#1 Bad news for victorians

the old man was telling me last night.. the blokes at his work were talking about something:

apparently over the western suburbs in a new estate there was a bunch of cars doing the usual illegal drags/ drifts whatever, and anyway

20 cop cars, 10 bikes and a bunch of tow trucks rocked up, they put all the cars on tow trucks and impounded them!!!!

barstards

looks like we are going down the same track as NSW and QLD where the cops can take your car, and even sell it if you repeat offences

what a bunch of BULLSHIET!

im definately staying away from these illegal nights, which is what the cops want us to do i guess, but the legal drags are crap, the only semi-local one we can go to we pay $55 to wait an hour in line for each turn, and are lucky to get 4 turns in one night

i wanted to put a sticker on my car saying something to the effect of more legal drags/drifts are needed but then figured id get unwanted attention from cops, maybe i'll put a sticker on dad's car

Good news for you guys that the po-leece are stepping up enforcement. Hopefully spare yourselves the horrific accidents and deaths resulting from this criminal activity that we've suffered here in SoCal.

as i hinted at, make all forms of legal racing more accesible and the problem stops!!!

i never went to any of this illegal stuff until i pretty much put rallying on hold as it is far too expensive to compete unless you have a decent full time job, no good for uni students

and hey at least it's done in vacant estates and industrial areas, the only people getting hurt by it are participators

there's a fair bit of talk that movies such as the fast and the furious promotes a lot of this behaviour, which probably has a fair amount of truth.
i like the idea of more legal racing areas. i haven't been to any b.y.o. type meets in perth, so i don't know a lot of cost details etc. about that. every wednesday night they usually have this at quit motoplex, one of the best drag strips in the southern hemisphere.
I know they have 1/8th mile drags down the straight at barbagallo raceway aswell, where you can also use the burnout pad.

from my place its easier to go offroad. there's plenty of gravel tracks within half an hours drive (even 10 mins if u look hard) where you can go cut sick, not hurt or annoy anyone, and do less damage to your own car. (bring an old car bonnet for smoke if you must have it...)
the worst part about this is that you can't see around corners...
yesterday i took the old boys patrol for a spin in the sand patch... now that was fun- sideways in a patrol... hope he don't read this

but yeah, off road, only go hard in open areas. be careful when your following someone aswell. my dad made that mistake. he was last in a group (motorbike, but the idea is the same) everyone else went round the corner, so he figured there was no one coming. flat out, and what do ya know, a car coming the other way, which everyone else nicely went around. I broken leg, and 9 months of work... still can't walk properly 20 odd years later.

be good to get a hundred acres or so in the middle of no where, put in a drag strip/burnout pad/drift circuit/whatever else, as well as a gravel pit, and charge people $10 per vehicle for a day. insurance is the biggest killer.

Street racer gets 41-month term in fatal crash
Seattle Times
This apparently wasn't organized illegal street racing, but we've had fatalities with those as well.
