#1 buying a datsun
sr12 Posted on: 2004/8/2 10:12
hi fellow datsun lovers,

im on the lookout for my first car, and a datsun 1200 ute has come up at the right price, and now ive got a few things that i would like to ask you guys. what would be the average market value for a virtually stock 1200 ute.( and before you start saying 'how long is a peice of string and things, just tell me how much you would ask for if you were to sell a all but dead stock 1200 ute.) and also are there any things i should look for when i go for the inspection, and where abouts should i look for rust and the likes.
thanks in advance guys.

Just to add, grab a torch and look up under the glovebox where the front of the car hangs off, that is the worst spot for rust.
Also what year, mods, accident damage, history, paint condition ect ect.
And the first thing my Dad ever taught me with cars is think with your head not with your heart !!!
Good luck and let us all know

check the underneath where the sub frame meets the floor pan. the bottom of the rear quater panels is another spot. Its not hard to take out the inserts either side of the wheel arch and have a look/feel right down the bottom. (just don't bother with the one near the fuel filler, you won't get far!) behind the compliance plate, as already mentioned in the engine bay is a typical spot, and behind the fender at the bottom, just in front of the door. check the frame under the fender while your there.

price also varies according to where you are. $5000 in WA will get you a really good one in stock condition. I picked mine up for $2000, requiring work, with rust.

yea I just picked mine up for $650 unlic with a whole lot of rust, but it does have extractors, 2in exhaust and mags.. even if I spend a grand getting it on the road it'll be worth at least 2000 then. (lucky I just met a guy who was an ex panel beater by trade who has just retired ;) by the way i'm on the lookout for parts ;)
