I've heard that a bosch alternator from a series 2 blubird fits and is 60 amp over the 1200s 35amp. Probably the same as the laser one. Anyway the series 2 bluebird i'm told will bolt straight on and the pulley will line up with the crankshaft pulley. Only thing is the wiring needs to be changed as I think the blubird alternator is internally regulated by any auto electrician should be able to do this easy.
I got 2 big 130 watt driving lights to put on my rally 1200 and will do this alternator conversion in a couple of weeks so I can run them!

According to my calculator, those two lights alone will suck about 20 amps, so by the time you add the two [nominal] 100 watt high beams, plus all the other lights, you will be drawing somwehere between 36 to about 42 amps with everything on.Turn on the aircon & the engine could be in trouble.
Don't turn them all on with the engine idling. P.S. My steam powered calculator used a nominal 13v for its calc's

i have put 85 amp alternators on both style of a-series (alternator on driver or passenger side), it's pretty simple, i use an EA falcon alternator which can be picked up pretty cheap at a wrecker (there is 75 and 85 amp models but both are identical to mount and wire)
the install also allows you to remove a lot of wirring, i have posted the details on the conversion before, let me know which side your alternator is on and ill give you a run down if you like

Most Datsun alternators are at least 50 amps, for example, the 510/520/620 alternators bolt right into the A12 mount.
But why not fit a 100 amp alternator? Many of the larger fords and gms have these.

I went for a v8 fairlane alt. not sure what amps but more likely 55/65? these v8 alt. have a really large pulley on them , this is good to slow down the axle speed of the alt , not like to over rev it now
