Just a question to clear up my confusion... The slave cylinder is for your hydraulic clutch isn't it? What do you top this up with? Mine has a leak in it...

Brake fluid

Seals are cheap.......replace them
If its a 3/4" bore.....cylinders are cheap too.
Replace it........JB4055
Or JB4158 for 11/16"

Iff its you slave cylinder that leaking thats the one on the gearbox your probally better off getting a new one there not that expensive but if its the clutch master cylinder there pretty easy to rebuild just get a seal kit good luck

Hey guys while we are on the subject of slave cylinders, do all slaves have the same bolt pattern??? As I need to get a smaller cylinder as the master isn't big enough for the slave I have and it's less work and hassle to maybe get a smaller slave. As when I press the clutch pedal, the clutch only dissengages whenthe pedal is right at the floor, there are no leaks in the line and it's been bled.
So when I press the clutch pedal the little rod coming out of the slave doesn't move too far.

Definitely not.

If you are talking about a hydraulic clutch slave cylinder for an a-series engine, look at this: Clutch slave cylinder comparison in our club photo album. These two appear to have the same bolt pattern, but others are different.

Yes, if the bore diameter's ratio master/slave is too small you won't get much travel at the slave end. On the other hand it doesn't move much anyways.

TIP: Some Nissan transmissions need an external return spring for the slave. If this is missing it'll look like you adjusted it right, but it won't bleed out or adjust correctly. So force the piston into the slave by hand (takes lots of effort). Once it's bottomed out, add the spring, adjust the rod (1/16 inch play at the bellhousing) and try it again.
