soo, i've ran a search and i've read the tech section head info, so all A15 heads are oval port? no a12 heads are oval port besides the gx? or are later a12's (a12a) oval also?

what would be the main most common problems for overheating, took the dat for about an hours cane and it was quite hot weather but when i had finished temp was about 6/8 along on the temp gauge, it hasnt overheated on drives of this length before, usually stays on half. so any suggestions?

The only oval port on the A-series is the GX head. Not A12A. A14 GX are oval too. I don't know accurately which are oval, but I'm certain it's got nothing to do with your overheating.

1. Rubbish and buildup in the radiator. 70%
2. Waterpump 15%
3. Stuck thermostat 7%
3. Loose fan/Water pump belt 5%
4. corroded/choked water galleries 2%
5. stuffed temperature sender 1%

All the A15s I've seen are oval ports, as are most A14s. But Nissan had way too many running changes to say for sure about anything they did ... Per dattodude's reply they seem to be different in Australia.

The newer A12s have round-port heads, as did some A14s.

The oval port engines don't overheat any more or less than round port engines.

haha, no the oval port and overheating were two seperate questions, just didnt want to clog up the place with 2 posts. anyway so id figure an oval port head thats said to be an a15 will be an a15.

overheating, main cause is radiator in general. so i should take her to a radiator specialist and get them to check it out? i do think it has a pin hole leak which wont exactly be helping things yeh?

I got my 1600 one done with a triple row core for $230. Cheap as chips. (cheps for you aussies )

Maybe there is nothing wrong,If you were caneing it for an hour on a hot day it is to be expected that it would heat up a bit more than normal.

If you even suspect that the radiator is becoming a problem, then pop it out & have it properly cleaned & tested. While it is out, go & buy a new thermostat, or at least, test your old one & make sure it is working oroperly. I had a new triple row core supplied for the radiator in my 200B [810] & was surprised at just how little it cost over & above the price of a stock replacement core.

Look at it this way, if you spend say, $100 on a rediadtor clean out & service, along with a thermostat, it will compare quite favourably against the possible cost of a lost engine, the inconvenience of being stranded, & the cost of the tow home.
Factor in the fact that if this disaster should befall you, then you gotta do the radiator thing anyway.
An ounce of prevention,...etc.
