Engine for 120Y

Guyz,
I've a 1979 JDM B310 120Y running on a vvt A12 (wonder if this is the GX's)...anyway..I'm looking for a suitable performance engine for it...was considering the CA18DET earlier...but somehow my home country's gov doesn't allow cc upgrades of more than 25%...hence, i'll have to settle for something milder... was looking at the A14 and A15...but are there any other 1.5/6 RWD engines that'll fit into the B310 without/with minimal mounting mods? Pls advise...thanks in advance...

If the car that you have is a B310 & it is known as a 120Y then it's possible that you are in Barbados. It's the only place that i have heard of [so far] where the B310 is known by that model name. Does this car really have a Variable Valve Timing [VVT] A12 engine??? Is this a factory Nissan engine in your country? It's completely unknown here in Australia & i would be happy to swap you two CA16DE engines [one for spares] for it. The CA16DE is still a twin cam CA series engine but in a capacity that would be legal. The engine is a front drive type, but requires only a trans from any CA powered rear drive car to make it all work. Please post some pictures of this genuine Nissan /Datsun A12 VVT engine as it will be a first for many to see it. Oh yeah, a big hearty welcome to the club for you, your B310 & your A12 VVT engine.

1st of all thanks dude...
but well..nope dude..i'm from Malaysia, and my rides a genuine JDM 120Y (B310) round lamp....that A12 engine i'm having was a second A12 i obtain from a local JDM halfcut distributor years ago to replace the original one which was waayyy high on mileage.. surprisingly i only found out about the vvt feature after drivin' the engine for 2 to 3 years or so...but i notice it gets pretty quick from 80 to 120 km/h pictures?..erm dun have any of them though...but it pratically looks like any other A12 on the B310 except for there's an extra VVT component which even my ex-mech (who drives the a last batch 81 B310) was surprise to see... my guess is it probably came from some JDM Datsun Truck/pick up or something.. its hard to believe..though an A12 vvt..still wondering where it came from (as in which model)...but i know its definitely Japan

OH SORRY GUYS,
just did a brief research..and found out that that component i had wasn't exactly a VVT.. its called the VVC Variable Venturi Carb....have the advantage of at full throttle, there is minimal restriction to airflow compared to a traditional fixed-venturi carburtor. Vacuum and airflow regulate the venturi movement, and excellent fuel metering is achieved with tapered rods that move with the venturi, allowing more or less to flow. Just got this from this forum's main site... That explains it all.. Its not my engine's which is unique...instead its actually my carb... no wonder... gosh~ guys, sorry for making such a big mistake...

Ummmmm,... NO Quote: i'm from Malaysia, I wonder if you could include that snippet of info in your profile so that we can help you better. You have no idea how sorry i am to learn that your engine is not a factory VVT type. Oh well, maybee one day. The CA16DE was available only in the sporty EXA model in Australia as far as i know, & these are front drive cars, but turning it around & using it in a rear drive car is simplicity itself. It needs only the various components from a boooring single cam CA series engined, rear drive car & you're away. Check through the tech section in the panel at top left of your screen to find more info. Is your VVC an SU carburetor, or a Hitachi version. When Datsun used the Hitachi version of the SU carb, they used two of them, not one, so perhaps you can find a way to get some good pictures for us to examine. That would be great.
