i was told 2 check the points gap and condition as this maybe the problem why my ute is playin up. What do i have to do to check the point gaps, are they talkin bout the spark plug gap or wat???

It'll tell you in the "engine tune-up" section of your manual, or you could find an e15? and take the electronic distributer off that...

If you cant remember when you changed them last they probably need replacing. When you go to the auto parts shop to buy points buy a pair of cheap feeler gauges make sure they have .40mm & set the points to that. The most accurate way is with a dwell meter but the feeler gauge way is fine. Good Luck

I've been wondering the same thing because everytime i pull away from the lights it tries to stall and i have to ride the clutch right out. I changed the plugs and points and the distributor cap and leads which made it heaps better but it still does it a bit sometimes does anyone have any ideas?

If you are completely unfamiliar with points, to the point that you don't even know what they are, then the first & most important tool that you will need is a workshop manual. Something that you should have bought when you got the car

This will show you everything that you need to know as the setting, or replacing of the contact points is only the first step. This should be followed by an ignition timing & idle speed adjustment. Once this is set, you will need to do this only every 5,000k or so.
