Dont mean to be a party pooper but I am just sorry that your not getting a Datsun,
Dont know all that much about BMWs but at a guess I would say they are going to be expensive to fix if anything serious goes wrong, and if its that old it may need fairly regular maintenance. Yes it would be wise to check if the engine has seized. Personally I wouldnt touch one with a barge pole.

Definitely expensive to fix. My suggestion is to sell it and buy a datto. Much more fun and simpler to maintain.

I got one of the chart for ya. You can fit a 302 Windsor V8 to it. Has to be Windsor as the Clevo block is to tall. You're best to do the conversion yourself, as paying for something like this adds up real quick.
I've seen a few with 12A and 13B rotors in 'em, but rotors ain't motors. Bloody chook cookers!!!

in all seriousness I would like to meet the engineer who will certify the 302 V8 in that car.

You're right, not many engineers would want to touch that one, but it can be done. My brothers '81 beamer weighs something like 1800 kilos, more than enough weight to warrant a V8.
Where there's a will, there's a way.

Yeah. Any of the 320i + BMWs are good to go.
The 318's aren't worth the trouble. It's the fact that they are 6 cylinder and quite heavy. I once calculated that you could get away with a supercharged 308. Back in the early days, I would have liked to do a 6/71 355 stroker (holden 308) with twin predators. But I realised the price of petrol, and realised that I'd never have the cash, so I started reading fast fours mag, and never looked back.

Well as long as greddydattocoupes BMW weighs 1.6 tonnes or more it shouldnt be a problem then.

Ditch the Beemer motor & whack a SR20DET in there, I've seen it done, better power to weight etc.
At least if you whack a Nissan donk in there you'll have a Datsun connection. You can view topic.
