1200 Steering column/box options

A mate of mine with a 1200 ute has a lot of play in his steering column (moves in and out and sometimes clicks or notches when cornering)
As all the 1200 columns are missing at the local wreckers are there any alternatives he can use?? Maybe a column and steering box from a 120Y or a sunny? Has anyone had this problem before? Thanks, Mark.
