Hey all, found a 120y i wanna buy. I have to make an offer though.
Its in beaut condidtion, with an original 60,000k's on the clock. The car is pretty much roadworthy. No rust at all, a couple of small dents in the panels. A good polish, a service and a good drive, and shell be like new. Anybody got any idea what a fair offer would be for this car?

Does the owner know its value to an enthusiast? or are they one of them "pfffffft...its a 120Y" people? If the former, then start at $800, if the latter, start at $300. JMO

Mate it all depends on who's selling it and for what reasons. In April of this year i brought a very tidy 120y sedan with only 66000km's on the clock. The only rust i could find was on the inside of the door corners because the water channel had got full of junk. There were a few small dings in one panel and light scratches in others but other than that nothing major, all she needed was a good cut and polish. The interior was mint and just needed a clean. The engine needed a service but ran like magic after that. Just keep an eye out for a rusted fuel tank, check the fuel cap as its a good indicator. Mine had started to rust through, which explained the consistently strong smell of petrol inside the car. As soon as you get the chance flush out the cooling system and fuel lines and replace the thermostat as you will find that it will be stuffed. Back to the point, i recommend you buy it, offer around $400. I brought mine off a old lady who owned it since new and only paid $460 including rego for 12 months which she was happy to pay for me coz she got it at half price being a pensioner. If the seller is old then get them to pay for the rego for you, as it will make no difference to them and a big difference to you. Then change the rego over to yourself at vicroads, that should cost you about $60, but you'll have to get a r/w done on it as well.
Best of luck getting the car Nick

Spoke to the owner last night.
He said he was prepared to sell it and was going to talk to his mechanic about prices... The upside of this: The mechanic that is looking at the car now for RWC is MY MECHANIC, and has already told me that a fair price to offer him would be about $750 ! Waiting to hear back from the owner... Found out the history of the car also, was bought brand new in Maryborough, Vic. The man that bought it recently died (aged 94) and was sold to the current owner only weeks ago quite cheaply. As for Rego, thanks for the suggestions, never looked at it that way. Not sure if the current owner is on health care card or not, but if he is, will ask him to pay the rego for me and then i will change it to my name... Would be handy because the rego runs out in november ! ! Anyways guys, will post up here as soon as i know any more ! Thanks for all the replies ! You can view topic.
