Or are all 1200 utes with front disc brakes conversions?

Cheers,
Brad

as far as I am aware all utes had drum brakes.
I had an 85 model that had them although that was changed in under a week !!

Is that the final word on the subject ute gurus?

Just wondering as I'm thinking of buying another ute and I want to see if there's a model to go for that wont need an engineer cert for brakes to make insurance 100% legit.

Has anyone been caught out with insurance + a non approved brake conversion?

mate, the minute u take a piece of metal out of the chassis or main configuration of the vehicle, it is unroadworthy, meaning u need an Engineers cert and another RWC. Some dumb cunt - ie me - cut a hole in the bonnet of my VK commodore and i got a pretty yellow sticker in my window the next time i drove it.
if you want to upgrade ur brakes, u cant get kits at differnt suppliers.
try
Maddat
they make awsome stuff

All the Aus delivered utes came with drums. Mine was one of the last sold and it had drums.

Get it engineered. It really won't cost much and it'll give you peace of mind.

Thanks to all who commented.

I'm not adverse to getting it engineered (I'm an engineer myself, but in a different field, not mech), just wanting to know what the best course of action was. As I've seen quite a few newer utes floating about in the papers lately and was wondering what the pros and cons were. As its stands it looks like a different grille and dash is it. Any other major upgrades? Did they upgrade the steering boxes on the newer ones to having a rag joint in the middle?

Just wondering...

Don't South African built bakkies come with discs?
