#1 710 ballast resistor ignition pattern
710owner Posted on: 2006/2/23 3:38
hello dat fans. Im a newcomer to the datsun world as well as the driving world. i have some mechanical knowledge and i am stuck right now. I have a 1977 710 that i have cut the ignition out of(i know i know), trying to put a ignition button in. My ignition seized up and i figured id get rid of the problem by putting one in. I went into this project blind not realizing my ignition had a ballast resistor in it. I was wondering if there is someone out there that can help. I do still have the old ignition but the wire sleeves are stripped off and i cant remember what goes where. I would really appreciate if someone knew the ignition pattern, if they could tell me what i shall do. Other than that i have enjoyed my 710 immensly. She still amazes me on corners. I got it with only 63000 original on it and its been a great car. Also if anyone knows where all the 510s are hidden, antique scrap yards or anything along the line. I live in Surrey B.C Canada. Thanks guys

Once again i plea for help. My violet has been off the road for about two weeks now because of my screw up. I can make her run but it feels like its running on three cyl, misfiring backfiring..... not even an option to drive. My distributor points are not burnt but if i drove they definetly would.. so can anyone suggest something i can do, appreciate.

I have a 200B (810) manual at home, might be the same sort of wiring, but I know the different Datsun models can be wired up differently.

If it's running...you must have it sort of right.

IGN - 9V to coil (via ballast resistor) + 12V to all other running devices.
START - 12V to coil (bypassing ballast resistor) + 12V to all other running devices + 12V to starter solenoid.

It's hard to help without knowing what you've done so far.

I am leaning towards this not being a problem with your ignition switch mods.

the question is does anyone know the pattern of the wires to the back of the ignition.
I have a blackgreen, blackwhite, blackyellow, blue and ,whitered i need put them back on my original ignition, they had been cut to put in a ignition button, not knowing there is a ballast resistor in the ignition. Therefor i have to get that ballast resistor back in so she runs right. A problem i created..... my poor car>
