Arghhhhh!!! A series distibuter cap problems.

Here's the story,
I finished the carb and fuel pump upgrade on my 1200. Despite that being the only thing I did, It went from going to not going. Doing a bit of fault finding I deduced there was spark coming out of the coil, but not back out of the dizzy. The rotor looked a bit grotty, so I bought a new one. No difference. So I figured I'd get a new cap too. (I also disovered that there was no continuity between the carbon pin, and the bit where the HT lead from the coil plugs in) So I rock down to the parts shop. They sell me a bosh GH604. This doesn't fix it. The old cap has a mitsubishi logo on it. (Three dimonds) I take it back. I stand around for about 20 mins while they paw over their parts book. Seems there was a mitsi cap used on early A14's. (In round headlight B310 140Y's) The part number was X (something) ninety (something) after visiting numerous parts suppliers, they tried to tell me that the bosch GH604 crosses over and is the correct part. The "H" means hitachi. But that bit doesn't fix it. (it does fit the dizzy body though) So in desperation, I pulled out the carbon pin, cleaned out the hole on both side with wet and dry, and got another pin from another old cap ( the pin in my misti cap was very worn down, and stubby) and got it to fire. Thing being this, the contacts inside this cap are fair worn, and this is at best a short term solution. (There's drags on sunday and I'm itching to run) But what the hell am I going to do? Someone shed some light for me?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

have you checked the lead from the HVC to the dizzy? I had one go bad such that it made a tiny spark at the plugs, but looked ok to the eye. Check the resistance of the HVC lead - it should be very low but not so low that it can't be measured, nor should the resistance be infinite.

Yeah, I did that. That lead was sweet as. When the spark lead from the coil is held next to the body, (an earth) there is a fat juicey spark. The problem was (is) the cap. The measurement from the shoulder which the cap seats against to the raised bit from which the carbon pin protrudes is further on the GH604. What I need is the mitsi part. I forget the number, buut it was something like XD92 or similar.
The dizzy Ive used is out of an A14 that was in my 1200 when I first bought it. Being that this car has had a rather checkered history, there's no way of knowing it's true origins. But the parts book said that it's the cap off a b310 140Y.

I think on the dizzy body it should be stamped hitachi or mitsubishi, as this might help in finding the correct cap and rotor

I spent the whole day tinkering with my new carb. I've got it to run so it's drivable. (sort of) It has a nasty tendancy to pop back and sputter. I'm going to swap the dizzy for another on tommorow, and see if that cures it. Apart form that, it goes hard when it bites.

since you have had no luck with non gen parts, I would take the dizzy to your local nissan dealer and if it is not your original dizzy ( I am guessing it is not) try and get the engine number that it came out of.
Just had another thought is the dizzy out of an A series motor ? reason I ask is I used Honda parts for my dizzy apart from the body and shaft all the internals are the same as EB1/EB2 1200 civics

I flagged away the dizzy, and put in onother one which is a known quantity.
Still run like a bag of arseholes, but I may know what is causing that now.
