Auto questions (jatco 3speed)

Just wanting to know what is invloved in getting a jatco 3speed to shift properly after engine modifications have been made.(changes in vaccum)
I was thinking oneday a mild a14 may end up in front of the auto. (extractors, little cam 23/60, twin su's and a little higher compression) Whats in need of changing. Is is simple enough to modify the vaccum module yourself in order to get it to shift where and when you want or is it a case of take it to the auto bloke. cheers

It should shift correctly even after changing to an A14.

Even with the twin carbs and a little cam. The vaccum would be alot less than with the standard cam(at low rpm) and standard hitachi. I just assumed it would effect the shift points as they are judged by vaccum. Someone else on here had shifting problems after upgrading to a single sidedraught.

I had aproblem with my auto when i put a dellorto on the a12 you can get adjustable vaccume modulators to overcome the low vaccume signal (try get the signal from as many cylinders as possible)
Im still using the same jatco behind my a14t....they are a strong box.

Yep,
The real answer is to pick up an adjustable vacuum modulator. Then you can dial in the trannys habits to suit your taste. One of the my past 1200's was setup with a 1200GX head with SU's sitting on top of an A15 block with a mild cam. Lots of fun! Current project is another 1200 sedan with auto. Just picked up an A15 engine with a toasted head. I'm going to take my freshley rebuilt 1200 head (with port matching, manifold work, and modified and rejeted stock carby and stick it on the A15 bottom end. Trying to make a torque motor to go with the Auto tranny. Should be good for street use and the tight autocrosses we have around here. Gary You can view topic.
