#1 Datsuns at the hill. The Huntley Hillclimb
Dodgeman Posted on: 2006/5/28 10:05
Members should be proud of the two Datsuns that flew the flag at Huntley today.

R Fast was there & his engine ills are a thing of the past. Jeff, I gotta tell you, that engine of yours sounded so clean & crisp that it made others stop & look to see what it was.
The Boss was there too, & as usual, knocked the record time for his class just a little lower.

The Boss, waiting his turn in the beautifull sunshine.

Just heating the tyres, but the takeoff was almost too quick for the camera.

Launching on the class record run of 29.09 secs
It also holds the local club record here, but at an even lower time.

Here we have Jeff, who was ably supported by his brother, Dog160, waiting his turn.

R Fast just warming the tyres. He gave a very good show too.

Tyres are all warm now. The smokeup that he produced was no 'arf-arsed effort, I tells ya.
The sound that this thing made would gladden the heart of any Datsun racer. I don't know who tuned the Webers, but he did a great job.

It was a great day for Datsuns

Good show fellas. Love to hear how the datsuns are going in different events.
Dman is that tan coupe running the CA16 now?

Hey Dodgeman,
good to catch up with you and 'the boss' today - a good day was had by all Dattos. Thanks again for the pics - always good to get an outside view. Dog160 has some ripper footage on his video of the "tyre warming" - can't wait to see it on the big screen. Will try to get it on the site for a bit of fun Times were not what I wanted and I think some more midnight oil needs burning before the next outing
Well done to 'the boss' - the car sounds STRONG up the hill and backs it up with solid times .... not too shabby for an old bloke an inspiration for not growing old
Cheers

The tan coupe is running the same old A15 that it has had for a while. It is not intended to replace this engine with anything other than another A series.

The other 1200 coupe in the workshop undergoing slow but steady construction, on the other hand, is another matter. It is this other car that I refer to as 'the secret weapon' I am not at liberty to discuss any of it's mechanical specs, other than to say that it is a further development of the current car. I do not expect to see this one running this year.

Jeff, it was good to meet up again & to meet Dog160. Having fellow Datsun club members at an event just makes the whole day go better.
As for your times, now that the engine runs right, I'm sure that just a little juggling with tyre pressures, & a bit of practice with the extra power, & you will be right on the pace.
As for the Boss, yes, he is even older than me, but don't tell the timekeeper, all he sees are the lightning reactions of a 20 year old.

The only hicups of the day were when a driver suffered a heart attack while chatting to others at the top of the hill. He was only a few feet away from a fully equiped Paramedic Ambulance & received immediate treatment. This was early in the morning, & right at the end of the day, one driver had an 'off' causing damage to two wheels & some suspension parts. This thing was a Kawasaki-Triple powered roller skate. He had been racing it for thirty years I believe. It'll fix OK.

An interesting point for those that have driven this particular hillclimb and THINK they might be quick .......
I was chatting to Peter Gumley (the Nat Hillclimb champ and record holder at 19.5 sec and asked what speed he is doing at the fork - - 176 kph That is FFAAAASST in anyones language - and it turns corners too. Really good to see it at speed!!
Cheers

Geez Jeff. Can't wait to hear your beast after the rave reviews its getting!

What type of car is this 19.5 sec record holder ?

Thanks for the comment - but "I got nothin' " at present. Still running the venturies and fuel/air combo from the A series Give me a month or so and I will hopefully have the comp raised and a bit of stick to use Still sounds good though!
The 19.5 car is an open wheeler (Formula Libre over 2 litre I think) with what is basically a supercharged VW motor. It is a lot more exotic than that of course but I cant know the specifics - runs on methanol though
Awesome machine in motion !!
Cheers

I still want to know how much boost that black Skyline was running.
In an early run it leapt off the line like nothing I ever saw leaving a cloud of black smoke behind it you could hardly see through. By the livin' Harry it got with the programme like a cat with a cattle prod up it's freckle
I think that he overdid the boost though as it seemed to get slower with each run untill if finally cried 'uncle'
