Hi are the mounts on the ca18de out of an exa the same as the ones from a 180sx?
How do the engine differ from front wheel drive ones to the rear wheel drive ones? Will be going in to 1200 useing a kev crosmember. Any help would be good.

The Mounts are nothing like one another.
The oil and breather lines are different, the manifolds are different. Please stop these thoughts ![]() Go find a RWD one from a Silvia, many of those guys are happy to get rid of the engine. It's possible, but I'd only be doing it if it were a CA16DE, and I was a racing guy trying to stay under capacity limits for a racing class.

Unfortunately for us Yanks, we have little alternative. We only got the RWD CA18ET, not the RWD CA18de or DET, which is why there are some running around here with the 4AGE, which is much more readily (read cheaply) available, ditto a 5-speed RWD 'box for it. It's the same reason it is usually mated with the Corolla rear axle, as we don't have Utes to pirate for the H165. I just saw a CA18DET on Ebay US c/w 5-speed, wiring, turbo, ECU, sensors, MAF, and intercooler. How much? A paltry $1860 AUS (1400 USD), and for me on the west coast, another $400 AUS for shipping. You work out the total. How does it stack up with what y'all would have to splash out? The swap I'm considering would be nearly impossible to certify there (still can't work out why it's anyone else's business what's under the bonnet). You can't do this?

Yeah, basically the blocks are the same and you can convert FWD to RWD and vice-versa but if you go with a FWD engine you'll end up having to source a bunch of parts with which to fit it unless you want to fabricate the mount brackets etc yourself. The FWD DE's have a poorer intake design the RWD ones and of course the exhaust manifold points vertically downward so you'd need to find a replacement. Probably not worth the hassle unless you can get all the other bits easy.
