Hey guys, just wondering if n e one has put the skyline diff in their 1200.I'm wanting to go this way and wanted to find out what problems people have had and how good the diffs have turned out. Is it difficult as far as brakes go, being disks and all. Any info would be good

i have a 31 diff cut down and put and its all going well. i havent got my car on the road yet, but from the couple of drives around the block and up the street diff seems sweet and breaks are all good too.
One of the wheel bearings is leaking a bit but it should be easy to fix.

yerr mine has a 28 spline borgy in my 1200 coupe
R31 axles, VN V8 4 pinion LSD and pintara 4.11 & housing,
Aussie Diffs (In Nerang) did mine, only need to cut & respline 1 axle, brakes are great, the only thing i have to do is setup the handbrake, anyone done this yet? we cut out a centre section in where the shockies are mounted, so the diff doesn;t hit the floor, depends how low you want to go.

honestly talk to kev rowley he has done it many times before and can tell you exactly what to do and how to fit the r31 hand brake cables. top bloke and is always happy to help explain how to go about it

My next question was going to be about the handbrake cable but someone beat me to it .I was thiinking of keeping the standard 3.9:1 ratio with an LSD centre.This is just to make it a better cruiser. Is this a good or bad Idea?

3.9:1 would be perfect mate. I run 4.11 but thats just my preference as i have pretty high profile tyres and 4.11 lets me cross the 1/4 mile line in 4th at 7000rpm where i want to be.

Get the r31 diff done right and you shouldn't ever have a problem again. I launch mine at 7500rpm on sticky tyres and its never missed a beat

P.S. What does your ute run on the 1/4 if you dont mind me asking?

My best is 12.4@116mph. However that is with major issues. My car is having trouble changing at high revs (clutch master & slave problem). So when i changed up at 7500 it wouldn't select the next gear resulting in slow times. In the 12.4 and 12.5 runs i launched hard and just babied it short shifting it went 12.4. So if i fix the shifting problem and can change up in the high revs where i should, it shouldn't have a problem going into the 11's.

PS. Thats street tyres and pump fuel

yerr i have asked Kev before, i might ask him again before i attack it. if you want you diff to last, the diff guys said donuts will wear out your lsd hemi, but like turboute says, you can launch them as hard as you like in a straight line, what spring setup do u have Turboute? do you have caltrek?
