I try to place a 5speed gearbox on a C120Vanette(A15 motor) 1986 having a 4speed one : R4W60L
I search a RS5W60L but very hard to find here !! all vanette are diesel !

question to you , specialists : is it possible to place a RS5W71 gearbox on A15 motor ?

RS5W71 is generaly used on LD20,Z20,Z24,GA16 motors ...

never tried it ??

never heard of that tranny, but if it didn't come hooked to and Aseries engine, then it won't fit.

the only tranny that i know of that worked on an A and L series was the 63 tranny and it had a different bell housing for the A and L engines.

possibly you can make an aluminum adapter plate, to adapt the transmission to the engine (and starter to the transmission), shorten the driveshaft. You may also need to cut the tunnel of the van since the transmission is bigger around.

It would be easier to install a floor-shift FSW560 transmission. Those are almost identical to the R (column shift) transmission.

RS5W60A is hard to find in europe , because all A12-A15 van's are buyed and goes directly to africa!!
impossible to find one .. old models are pratically indestructible and can make 4 000 000kms in africa..
and european poeple prefer diesel (noisy but less expensive) ..

FS5W60 hard to find too , not many old datsun models in france.

Impossible question : : if I find a FS5W60 , is it possible to take 5th gears and selection items to place them in my R4W60L ??

impossible to find a RS5W60A in France..

now , I search a H190 diff . of Diesel Vanette ( 4.11:1) .. easy to find ..
I actually have H190 4.875:1 ratio on my A15 vanette ....
or I change tires 165R14 > 205R14 !!

since 19/6 , I've found a 4.11 H190 ratio of diesel vanette !! I tried it , it's better : +10kmh ...

... and a week later , a friend found me a complete vanette with A15 and RS5W60A !! , after one night of work with lot of beer , it work fine !!
but I needed to replace my original ratio ( 4.375 ) .. too long in 5th speed AND 4.11 ratio...

now , I cruise at 120kmh(75mph),motor at 3500tr/min instead of 4300trmin , and burn 8l/100km instead 11/100km !! very happy ..

Good on ya. is the Vanette a whole lot of fun at 120kph?

I placed strongers front shock absorber ( rear peugeot 205 ) , if not, it move like a boat with his unique transversal spring !

at this speed , I principally hear the wind on front vehicle ..

I can go quickly (tehorically:150kmh @ 5200trmin) ... not tried yet ..
