does anybody know if one can import a right hand drive 1200,120y(b210) or b310 sunny to the US and how much will cost and what will i require...also has anyone ever converted any of these cars from lhd to rhd and how long did it take and what is procedure for doing this??

I see a alot of cars down hear changed over from LHD to RHD but i dont know if there are people in the US that do it.I'd say there should be.

because your in NY thats good because you can get it from the dock.There are auction houses in japan so the best bet would be to find some to buy you a car from one of them(one of the members from japan might be able to help).

I know from friends getting cars from japan it costs about 3kAU for the shipping.So to the US would be less than that.

Best bet may be trying to pick up a RHD from Bermuda or somewhere in the Carribean.

With the 1200 the conversion would be easy as.....keep steering column, swap pedal box over, obtain LHD dash obtain LHD wiper motor and gearing/linkages swap brakes lines over, obtain and fit LHD steering linkages. I reckon a solid weekend for you and 2 mates, frieght from japan forget it

well i'm from the caribbean so gettin' a rhd sunny is no problem...i have a rhd b310 back home but am not bringin' it over to the states.it was thinkin' of bringin' ova either a 1200 ute or wagon(since there is non in the us) or a b310( early 2 door or 4 door or 4 door van)....maybe have a problem getting a ute in my country(trinidad) since there are not much of those...may have to import one from australia or new zealand or japan.

RHD vehicles are legal in the USA -- no need to convert them.

But you can only import cars 25 years or older, due to DOT rules (this is about safety features, not emissions).

actually you can import cars that are 25 years or newer. they just need to be comparable to u.s. models, and receive slight body mods and emissions certification

Last I read from the US Customs web site, to import a car newer than 25 years you have to go through a registered importer, and there are none for most cars. Generally speaking they only handle expensive cars (Mercedes, Ferrari, etc). There are always exceptions, like the historical law that went into affect a couple of years ago and by which Bill Gates finally got his Porsche 929 after sitting on the docks in San Diego for a decade ...

The only grass-roots import I heard of was for 1994 GTR certification, which I read recently was pulled by the government due to irregularities.

i think everyone just imports the parts and swaps over the steering. importing cars seems to be a pain in the usa.

imagine trying to get CA DMV to accept a title in japanese.

newer cars aren't easy to import either, if it's not emissions, it's ODB-II or crash testing,etc. I hear all kinds of horror stories of kids who thought they could just buy a skyline and have it shipped over, only to have it shipped back because of bs paperwork, there aren't ever going to be R34(or whichever it was) skylines here.

but you can have a parted one shipped in...

the car could be shipped direct to NYC from japan, not everything goes rail across the country.
