Contact breaker point gap 0.45-0.55 mm
Distributor dwell angle .49-55 deg Ignition timing at idle speed 7 deg btdc in neutral That's the same for A14 & A15

Will there be any catastrophic effects if your dwell angle is 58 degrees? or am I just a tad paranoid?

Nah....it's only how long the electrical connection is made between the spark plug and the coil - 1 degree is nothing. I was trying to start my car with the timing 180 out....fire in the intake rather than the exhaust...that was a little bad.
Timing I'd say is worse to get wrong than dwell.

thanks.
LOL, I've done almost the same thing. rotated the sparkplug leads one point to the left or right(my memory sucks at this time of the morning) and got a new understanding why pre-ignition is also called ping. Made the same sound as a submarine hehe. Luckely no engines were damgaged in the making of the sound.

If you start at 55 degrees, you are already at the wrong end of the scale & it will quickly go out of spec. I reset mine last night & it came out at 48 degrees. Close enough,....... but always recheck the timing whenever you adjust or replace the points.

Thank You 4 the information!its useful to me.Set the timing, and dwel and hopefuly the points wil last a bit longer.I have a A14 Nissan ute jear 2005 Mod.The people here in SA say that the A14 Nissan ute is going of the market, they not going to make it any more? There is plenty of spares for A12 A14 here in SA,as the A14 Nissan is the same as A12 Datsun.Maybe you must try and inport a 5speed box?
