#1 Burnt Points ?
CCG Posted on: 2006/9/13 20:05
Hi,maybe one of you could help me. Every time
I put in new points it last only a week or two
and then it is burnt! What could be the reason? Is it the resistor or the gap of the points?

Replace both the points AND the condenser with new parts.

isn't there supposed to be a resistor to keep the points from burning?

yeah the ballast resistor is to drop the voltage down when the engine has started, if he is not using a ballast resistor and just using straight 12V to the coil then that would also wear the points pre-maturely

I took a reading of the resistor, its about 1.8ohm. Is it ok? What should the voltage be on the coil? My coils voltage is about 4 - 5V.
Thanx 4 the advice!
