#1 Hand brake set up
racingfuji Posted on: 2006/10/25 0:30
Hello there everyone

In a nutshell, my new 1200 coupe does not have a handbrake - at all.

The car is now running 4 wheel disc brakes & i have never set up a handbrake system before.

Does anyone have a complete handbrake system for sale &/or could tell me how to do this?

What diff is it?
If it is a completely different diff, then the previous owner probably found it too hard to modify the handbrake cable for the disks.
I am going to do this soon for an R31 skyline diff, so if you haven't had any luck with it before I get mine done, I can let you know how I did it

Thats the problem with purchasing someone elses car - i dont really know what is standard & what has been replaced with what (as i cant get in touch with the original owner).

If you could let me know how you go with yours that would be great.

I went all 4 disks on my Daihatsu, but my problem was I did this way back in 1992\93
and back then the availability of these nice calipers that had HB. built in just was not there, they also did not make them for vented disks.... so I added another normal caliper on each side, and just ran them on there own master that is worked by the handbrake lever. really nice for drifting and loosing control on any dry road,

there was a guy here that used a clutch master inline with the hydraulic line that went to his back disks... This setup seem to be much better than the dual caliper way.... Apparently he just made an adapter and fitted it to where the reservoir of the clutch master normally went. such that the hydraulic feed from the front (brake master) actually could pass right through this Clutch Master, when it's not being used,IE. plunger all the way to the front. Now when you need handbrake, the plunger will seal of the feed from the front, and apply pressure only to the rear.

Indeed a very clever rig this guy came up with.
