SR20 > H165???

I'm doing a Sr2oDet into a 120y and was wondering how long the H165 would last. Should I do a hilux/R31 swap now and save the worry or will it last a short time if I take it easy on it????

do the swap now otherwise youll be up for the expense of fabricating another tailshaft, plus the rear track of the H165 is alot narrower than a cut down bigger diff

200hp will last several race seasons if you don't do burnouts on Sydney roads. So <12psi boost on the sr20det will be fine. It's depends on what your definition of 'taking it easy is' .
![]() Sydney roads are full of potholes and dangerous bumps, which are diff's enemy. I'd recommend you doing the R31 now though, because it will mean having a second tailshaft made up if you do it later.

i agree, do it now. the h165 will last a while i gave mine heaps with my ca18 with 205 tread and it didnt snap even after wasting a whole two tyres. no matter how much ppl say they will take it easy, once its running i guarantee ull wanna flog the guts out of it.

i only had worked a14 in our s/wag & done 3 std boxes 1 heavy duty 4sp & it ate h165's for brekky & i lost count on how many TAILSHAFTS...was going to put shell on suzuki chassis but after getting involved on this site changed my mind...i picked up this week a a15 with slight mods[i will go full house on this one just to see how much N.A HP I CAN GET] i already have a alloy 5sp celica box.i will be fitting a SIGMA SCORPION disc brake rear end in mine& see how that holds up.
