Valve Spring Video Very Interesting

We talk about springs alot on this site and some people have trouble believing just how hard they work as well as how important they are.
This will show you. Triple coil springs at 7000 rpm. An A series at that rpm with stock springs doesnt stand a chance. Link

wow looks so soft and weak! I am sure it's as stiff as my mother in laws upper lip though!
Is it true that if you over heat your engine even slightly you can soften the competition valve springs causing them to not be able to let the engine rev as much as before?

Very very true. This is not so much the case in a road car but in a race car. Look at pro stock cars they rev them to 8900 on a dyno but on the track they take them up to 9400.That 500 more rpm 1/2s the life of the spring. Thats why alot of cars run spring oilers.(This is plumbing system where there are jets that put oil right on to the spring)

I very Frequently take my stock internal a14 to 7500 with no problem, just had the head reco'd and all the springs tested fine. those race pp'l sure do some stange things in search of such small amounts of power. personaly if ur car is still loseing id be searching for a better driver not more power lol

Just thought I`d mention probably the cheapest way to increase the RPM before valve float with the A series is to use a set of second hand red motor (6 cyl) inner springs to double up with. I cant remember the rate increase, but wasnt too much to cause undue stress on things.
If someone needs to know the exact rate i can test one.. You can view topic.
