Bathurst Supersprint cancelled :-(

I was called today by the bathurst light car club. Due to poor entry (only 12 entrants) the event has been cancelled. This is a real shame as its a great event. They had like 120 entrants for the two day event in December!!! i was looking forward to getting quite a few runs in before I run at oran park on the 9th of next month (Saterday)

This is a shame, but i think you will find it has as much to do with the new CAMS compliance checker regulations now in place throughout Australia. This is where some one from the organising club is required to attend additional courses on OHS and become legally responsible for all matters pertaining to the organising and running of the event, all in their own time and expense.I know this is really hurting the clubs because no one is prepared to put up their hand (and why should they)for fear of being sued. This was previously shouldered by CAMS but has now been handballed to the clubs. In Qld. there has already been talk of certain club level events not going ahead in 2007,there are many of us at an organising level beginning to ask the question is it all worth it and is this the beginning of the end for grass roots motor sport as we know it.AASA sanctioned events have thus far not tried the same stunt and good for them.Cheers Bert

my entry wouldn't have made much difference then. I have taken a week off work so i could finish the sunny coupe off for this event. first holidays in 16 mths. i'm disappointed, but i know how much of a disruption shutting down parts of what is the most expensive real estate in Bathurst for just 13 entrants is. I've been in this situation with events before, & sometimes it was cheaper to run the event anyway, rather than cancel & still pay the circuit hire. I don't know how much the BLCC pays for circuit hire, but there's still the cams permit, mailing costs etc to be covered. Always a worry when you're a week out from the event & you've not even got half a field. I'll just have to go to the BLCC website & find the next tar event up there.

well guys the truth is because alot of us bathurstians are slackers
and seem to think that we can just turn up to our own events on the day and enter there. myself included. you guys are also right in saying that it costs a lot to run this event, but that is partialy because of the damn council charging the club like a raging wounded bull. its around $5000 to run an event because of this, and to have nobody turning up to the event would be a real funds devastator.it really is a shame i had some new advans to give a run and i was going to incar video tape my runs. i also wanted to see andrew's coupe having a run down the straight. robert is justified in doing what he had to do as it would have left the club in a pretty bad position if we had of gone ahead with it. the next event will be a esses hillclimb on the 29th of july. not as fun but still great the next supersprint will be on the december 1,2 weekend i might have a talk to the commitee and see if we can re schedual the event cheers guys

i've looked for an alternative on that weekend & theres a state supersprint round at Wakefield Park on the same day.Maybe thats where some of your entries went. Oran Park has a 2 day Motorbike meeting, & i don't think i want to debut a car i'm not sure of the handling at Eastern Creek. Maybe i should try the street drags at the Wsid tomorrow. No they have a thing about unregistered cars out there, they seem to insist on an ANDRA inspection first. By the time i find a supersprint, I'll have converted it to Khanacross running.
