Shaving your locks (and anything else)

I am in the process of shaving my locks and haveing central locking to access my 1200.
looks good / clean and stops dammage to doors with no locks to pop or scratching the paint with your key. I would like some help with the petrol flap? It's easy enough to cover the hole. but what should or can i do with the opening system. Has anyone used any aftermarket systems? Please share your knowledge. also being a Ute i was thinking of having the petrol cap on the inside of the tray with no petrol flap on the out side? who has done this, is it easy enough or does the tank have to be modified?? The reason is i think it will look a bit #### to have the door locks gone and the petrol one still fitted?? Any info would be great.

Well my bodywork man removed the gas tank cover lock on his Sunny and filled in the hole. He then rigged up a system like a modern car when you pull a level in the car down by the seat and the cover opened. I never asked him how he did it but I could ask him if you want.

Head down to your local wreaker and hit em up to have a look around the yard. Look for newer falcons or commondoors with the remote fuel release under the dash and have a look at the cables and mechanisms and try to visualise (LUKE, USE THE FORCE) how it would fit into your datto. Keep looking till you find one that might do the job
Good luck

A mate of mine has shaven the key hole off his fuel flap and put a TV cabinet magnetic latch inside, so you push it in and let it go and the door pops out.

Ha Ha thats funny i can just see the maget latch. Some good ideas there i also am thinking of the fuel cell. it will help balance the weight as standard fuel tanks are on the same side as the driver and with a full tank and a full belly i can see gravity taking over.
thanks for the info guy's and gals.

I know im a stikeler for the rules but a car must have at least 1 door lock on the out side of the car for enginnerring
cops can see this mod nice and easy and will be happy to raise a bit of cash for their state

ive got my fuel filler cap welded up. looks good i think. the fuel filler is inside the tray. just been flipped around and cut a hole in the side of the panel. very neat... i have also had the passenger side door lock shaved off cause of engineering you have to have atleast one like homer said.. take a look in my profile for pics. i have to take some more of close up so you can look. i have also got all the guttering around the tray cut off.
edit- can anyone photo chop my ute to sit as low as homers looks awsome

Which registration authority is this with? Can you make a link to the website with this regulation. I have always known it to be - 1 easily visible mechanical means of opening the door from the outside. Although; Many cars nowdays are being approved without external handles and no locks. In a car accident, what good are door handles to emergency services if many central locking systems lock doors upon ignition and police authorities recommend that you lock your doors always when driving in traffic to deter car jackings? These 2 simple things allow engineers to approve shaved handles, etc etc. Speak to your engineers.

Hey guys, just to add my 2 cents. I have done all of this stuff, shaved door handles, locks, fuel filler, tailgate, hood squirters, aerial etc etc.....
The fuel filler is easy, just weld it up, then make a braket that sits inside the tub, which holds the steel filler neck. shorter the rubber hose, cut a hole in the tub, and done....just make sure you have holes etc in the tub for fuel to escape..... Oh yeah, in vic at least, you do not need to have door locks or handles. Only a mechanical means of opening the door from the outside (like phunk said)....yes l've confirmed this with an engineer and he's approving my next project with this mod.
