I just got a standard twin carbie for an A14 engine and was wondering if theres anything I need to know about getting it all hooked up.
I haven't seen it yet but dad says it looks like it has a choke on each carbie but the original one only had a single choke. Also it might need a fuel return system, which apparently my car doesnt have.
Any help would be good. Thanks guys.

there should be a link between the chokes on each carb that you can connect your cable to.

should be fine without a fuel return line using the standard mechanical pump or a 4-6psi electric pump.

dont need a return, if tuned and jetted right, thats what the vent hoses are for, just incase.

Make sure its got the liknages and if its got 2 chokes, hook them up as it will helpo with start up in the cold. (wish i could hook mine up)

Dont worry about the fuel return lines and you probably can get by without the choke, I did have a twin choke cable I got from the local parts shop connected but I have a feeling I never needed to use it.
Dont forget to put oil in the dashpots.

yeah you cant use your original choke cable, you will need a twin cable one
assuming you are talking about the hitachi su's

In the past I've used the twin choke cable from an early Zed. The cable is just long enough to reach from the stock choke hole in the dash so it looks right. Of course, this was on a left drive car so your mileage may vary...

I used a 1600 or 180B SSS cable in my 1000 sedan & it even took the original 1000 choke knob, but the 1200 knob is different.

At a pinch, you can use a single cable onto a single carb for starting enrichment. The engine will run roughly for a while when only one carb is supplying the richer mixture, but it will run just fine once it gets a little heat into it. Make sure that you do not block off the coolant flow through the inlet manifold as this is necessary to provide manifold heat for proper operation on the street.

make a cheap and simple choke linkage like this and you can run the standard choke cable. cheaper and neater than buying a twin choke cable. I'm surprised they didn't have a link from the factory...

Thanks for the info guys. Its all connected up now and it ran for about 20 seconds blowing lots of smoke and now it won't start.
I was going to just roll it down to a mechanic and let them tune it and whatever else needs to be done but is there anything else I could try to make it go?

At least you got it started ,thats always a good sign.

They are one of the easier setups to get running right, so if you can keep the battery charged you might want to perservere with it before handing it to the mechanic.
