#1 What is this turbo??
Tyrie Posted on: 2007/10/2 2:28
I'm looking at this for my 4agze, its being sold as a GT25 but I dont think it is, I cant find any reference to anything like it anywhere. Can anyone offer some insight to what it is and its suitability for a 1.6L engine. Apparantly its out of an s13 but I cant confirm that either.

It is definitely not a factory turbo for any S13/14/15. It has a hose clamp compressor inlet like the CA18 t25 but does not have the 3 bolt flange on the compressor outlet. All the other factory turbos had the 2 bolt flange on the compressor inlet.

It does look a little bit like a disco potoato (GT2860RS) with the .64 rear housing. I happen to have a T25g sitting right next to me and there is nothing on that turbo that matches the other.

EDIT: It's not a GT2850RS either, I just looked up some pictures.

edit: thought it might have been gt25, had a look on garrett website and couldnt find one the same...

the disco spud could very similar. what ever it is it is old. it is not in the current line-up. does it have the id tag on the centre section? should be a little tag with model number on it. with this info you can ring an authorised dealer and they will tell exactly what it is.

sorry edit: the point of the spud comment was if it is of similar size then it would be ok for your motor. the air ratios are good but it is hard to tell the wheels sizes in the photo

I expected an ID plate as well but apparantly the only other numbers on it is hsm-s6 on the exhaust housing.

Its done 500km since rebuild and I can get it for $350. Is it worth getting anyway?

With a .64 housing you're going to struggle to properly spin it up at anything below about 6000rpm, unless it's got ball bearings in which case you might spin it up at about 5k. I only get my boost fully up at about 4.5 to 5k, and I'm running a .48. You will have nice top end though.

Well that's unless you give it a good dose of laughing gas...

definatly a t25, ball bearing I doubt it.
I haven't seen a garrett compressor housing like that one.

My mate is about to whack on a T03 from an R32 skyline on his 4AGZE soon to be 4AGTE.

search the silvia forums you should be able to pick up all kinds of t25's and t28's on there pretty cheap.

Cheers

Yeah skyline turbos onto 4ags are pretty common. I'm gonna give this one a miss, will probably just get a ca18 t25 for now and upgrade later.
