I'm wanting to get some twin carbs for my A14 and pretty set on it. The guy I've been talking to says the best set up is delortos so that's what I'm looking at.
I can get them for $1340 for the whole set up ready to bolt on, fully reconditioned with a warranty. Basically I'm wondering if this sounds good. Could I get them much cheaper if I shopped around?
I'm pretty much hesitating because 1 - I don't have much money at the moment and 2 - thats like half what my whole car would be worth if I sold it.
Any input/advice/I can get them a lot cheaper for you etc. would be helpful.

I have a set of Dellortos that I am in the process of fixing up and installing at a later stage. I would like to ask if you can find out why everyone prefers Dellortos?
Almost all dattos on this site runs Dellortos although I don't like them very much.Reason is that the pair I have has wear on that little arm that goes between the two throttles down to the actuator pump arm. Apparently this is normal wear on Dellortos and Webers don't have this wear.Also I tend to struggle finding chokes, jets,etc for Dellortos while Webers are more plentyfull.
Ask the guy why Dellortos are preferred as I would rather go Webers as they don't have such a wear problem like the Dellortos.

What has been done to your engine as almost all the guys here said that it is a waste of money to put such carbs on a standard engine.

if you want to run webbers dellortos etc. i would
for the head: get a gx head port and polish it and bigger valves.
everything else: higher comp pistons (not to high) and lumpier cam
and if u go to all this effort balance it all

I have twin hitachis on now. The engine has extractors, 2" exhaust and a mild cam.

When I had the standard carby Everyone told me a bigger one wouldn't do that much but it did so I'm hoping that going bigger again would give the same kind of percentage of increase if that makes sense.

The carb guy said that twin dellortos are a little more powerful than webers and a little cheaper because there are more parts around but that they're basically the same thing.
But apparently a single webber is a little better than a dellorto.

He said people just like webbers better because they used to win all the races.

Webers versus Dellortos is down to personal preference. It's all down to how well the carbs are tuned. The cost seems reasonable for 'new' carbs, & you'll have them on the car if you want to put in a larger cam later on. Just ask the tuner to concentrate on the whole range from idle to flat out, or you'll more than likely find it a pig to drive as it doesn't work down low. Both Webers & Dellorto's can be tuned to give good bottom end as well as top end.

I bought a set recently only to discover that the actuator pump has a small hole that a arm goes through from the throttle shaft.This is worn aswell as this arm thingy that connect to it. Webers apparently don't have this thing that can wear and I would even say that it was a really stupid design from the Dellorto engineers.Almost all Dellortos I have seen have this wear while Weber people don't even know about wear in their carbs.
I can get now second hand replacements but just the thought in the back of my mind that it can wear out again makes me wanna get rid of them and get webers.

Dump the Dellortos idea and rather go for webers.

1200gxman, I suggest you do some reaserch and read this. webbers vs dellortoes, really there is a sh!t of difference because for every thing that can go wrong with your dellortoes there is something as stupid with webbers. How do I know this? I am reading a book that is how to tune and rebuild BOTH of the carbs and I have just finished the comparison section of the two.

It all basically boils down to preference and if your tuner says get the dellortoes, then get the dellortoes because he would have picked them for a reason, even if its only because he prefers them.

I have had a pair of webbers but my ute has dellortoes on it now (came with them) and it goes fuking fantastic... BUT it is totally useless putting these carbs on a stockish engine...

EDIT: check the prices on ebay because that seemes a little high, I would expect an almost new pair for that.

E Bay is the go, just keep checking and be patient, $1340 is way to much for s/h. At the moment there are Brand New 45's for $1400 and last week a new set of 40's sold for $700.

I agree with Mitch_photog on the Dellorto/Weber thing its like comparing Vegemite to Marmite.
