hey guys thinking of what parts i need to get. im building a L16 turbo to go in my 1200 as they alow an L16. i was going to put stock L18 guts into a L16 and use a L20b head. i have a redline webber mainfold that i was going to make up a plenum for and turn it into a efi manifold and i have a T25. what throttle body should i use? what stock injectors should i use? and how much boost will the factory bottom end take? im trying to use as much factory parts as possible to cut price down and availability
obviously im going aftermarket ecu oh yea how do i work out plenum size?

easy to steal parts off other motors im taking one off an early ford they are simple and dont have a fast idle valve. for injectors maybe take something off an sr20?
as for how much boost to run on a stock untouched bottom end i wouldnt go over 12psi plenum size is twice the capacity of your motor so in you case 3.2 litres

Some SR20DE's have a 60mm throttle body.

some of the l-series motors that the importers used to bring in (API and the like) came with EFI manifolds that they coudn't give away. May be worth trying to chase one up, it would make your initial set up heaps easier.

I am actually sitting here at the moment drilling and filing an L20b head to accept an L18 EFI manifold. The stock mounting studs do not line up. You have to drill a 10mm hole between the original bolt holes. Then you have to file out injector notches... wait, I'll just steal someone else's pic...
![]() Stolen from Dave on Ozdat, hope he doesn't mind. Not bolt on but not too tricky

The factory EFI manifolds are a low performance antique. (And VERY rare in NZ) But still way less hassles than making one from scratch.

PurpleJim, does the 10mm hole need to be tapped? I just bought one of these L18 manifolds from ebay, thought I could add it to my hoard of parts until one of those rainy days.

Hey WhiteSedan,
Cannot tell you what the proper method is, but I am tapping a 10mm hole, putting a stud in and just bolting the manifold to that. Also have to plug up the water galleries coming out of the head. The ports on the manifold are 30mm too (from memory, don't trust me) and L20b head ports are 34mm so looks like it's match porting time. And yeah, A14force is right, these manifolds look like they would flow as much air as a fat kid on a treadmill. Nothing porting and a bigger throttle body can't help though..... I hope.

i heard they were restrictive. they did come of a stock non turbo L18. plus i recon it wouldnt be hard to fit a plenum to it and it would probly flow more

No worries, thought that would be the case. Maybe by the time I come to using it I will come across the EFI head. Thanks!
