Mate i just bought a totally stock 1200 4 speed sedan From Beachworth about half hour south of Albury Wodonga The victorian border. and drove it around 1200 K's To Armidale Northern NSW with 5 13 inch rims with tyres on them 4 in the boot one in the passenger front floor and a packaged up front windscreen across the back seat and it stayed on normal temperature all the way except it rose a tiny bit up hills to be expected but dropped as soon as i would reach the top. They are a legend car this one has oil leaks to and was missing over about 100 k's. So i don't think you'll have any hassles as long as your running coolant and you've checked all other vitals. Trust the Datsun they are legends.

It's a 1200 - of course she'll make it! As datsandy said, check your vitals but shouldn't be a problem!

I bought my orange 120Y panelvan off ebay and drove it home from Adelaide to Melbourne. It only ran out of oil at Baccus Marsh. It's all good.

all you need for a long trip in a datto are a few small items like...extra oil and water if yu dont know what condition its in a shifter a screwdriver and some elecytape and you should have no problem driving accorss australia.

I bought my old 1000 sight unseen of D in Melbourne, caught the bus down and drove it straight back to Sydney loaded to the roof with parts, never missed a beat.

I would feel more confidant going on a long trip in a Datsun than in a modern car because if some thing does go wrong with a Datto it will be easy, cheap and quick to fix, when modern cars brake down you normally need to tow them somewhere to get an "expert" to figure out whats wrong.

Hell, I put close to 200,000 miles on my 1000 sedan over a 15 to 20 year period & the only problem I had was when it spat a fan blade at max RPM one afternoom.

A 10mm spanner allowed me to remove the damaged part & the remaining blades were left in place, so I was back in action within 10 minutes.

My stock 1200 coupe has just made a trip to Melbourne & back & I travel the 145k to Sydney at least once a week.

Provided that the car & its mechanicals are in sound condition & in good repair, then Datsun reliability is legendary.
