Hey,
Im looking at doing some head work. Im gonna port and polish and flow, double valve springs and bigger valves. Been quoted $500 for port and polish, $80 for springs and $15 each for valves. Does this sound alright compared to whats yous may have paid? Is it worth the price? And what hp figures would i be looking at with standard carby and then 32/36. Thanks

A big port job will cost more than you have indicated...FLOW and back tothe porting tool a couple of times(or more)to get the flow nice and even, probably half as much again.Springs,my most recent set a month ago at mates rates $125.00
Second hand valves machined down to fit your new seats, which you have'nt mentioned..around $25.00 each plus installation not to mention valve guide work if required,a skim and clean to finish off. The old saying comes up again, you get what you pay for

I have a mate who will do as much porting as you want for $250. He used to work for PAVTEC and specialises in head porting. Does a fantastic job too.

Afraid I wouldn't expect much improvement without also doing inlet manifold & carb, cam, exhaust too.

spoke to a mechanic, he said, 650-700 for stage 3 cam, springs, lifters machined, head shaved, valves reground and gaskets and seals and a bit of port work. does tah sound good? and will it still be good for daily use?

If they are doing all the work and it includes GST then it sounds fair. Depends on the port work though. How much of it they do.
