this is what can be: attach a suitable chain to it and use it as a boat anchor
either put a rotary in it or a worked a15 id prefer a rotary

I never heard of anyone building up a J15. You might want to ask on a Datsun truck site, like http://forum.ratsun.net

I have no idea how responsive they are to mods, but if you throw the usual at them, you should get the motor moviing.
Head work, and a bigger cam and carb should help, but then again the 1500 is a mid sized ute, so weight may be an issue. Perhaps a L20 swap might be an easy way to power.

yes you can do the motor up but there really is not much point. What i did to my 620(1500ute) was dump a fully worked L20B much more powerful and are a great motor

good choice for project, something diffrent.
but yes, u probably wouldnt find any performance parts for the thing and if u did the $ not worth it, so a swap to a L20 your best bet imo.

does your ute have the nice style side or the tray back...mine is the horrible and heavy steel tray back. I been after the king cab version hopefully the 79 with disk brakes at the front
