How to fabricate a twin su manifold for GX head.

Hi, has anyone tried to fabricate a manifold for twin su's to fit a gx oval port head? Surely it can't be that hard? I want to try as I can't find one, and su carbs seem to be plentiful from L series motors. Thinking of using steel pipe and plate and a mig welder.
Any advice? Maybe some pics could help me. Thanks Geoff

I shared my experience this week Geoff.
I bought some twin su carbs from a Triumph Spitfire from EBay. My plan was to use those 1 1/4" SU`s with a custom intake i didn`t knew how i would make them. But they came with the manifold and i started studing them and i found this: (the scans are all proporcional and the flanges represented are in the same scale) ![]() I think is a very close match and with some weld job and porting will work. Cheers David

use thick (1/2") plate for flanges and bolt or tack to something while welding to minimise distortion.
preheating will help too. thick flange will give you some meat to machine it flat again after it bends like a pretzel dazza

have all your plates laser cut in 12mm stainless steel plate then TIG weld using a decent wall thickness pipe. should come up good. if you have a spare head bolt the pltes to that first then weld and it will all be held in the right place
