#1 SOLD Weber 38/38 DGES carb FS - stomps on 32/36 DGV
D Posted on: 2008/12/18 2:50
As the title says its a 38/38mm downdraft carburettor of synchronous action (both throats open at the same time).

The performance and throttle response between the 38DGES and 32/36DGV is massive.
The 38 has a more aggressive main circuit that kicks in earlier and gives a huge improvement in torque .
Using the 38 you can cruise at 1/4 throttle in most cases and usually get the same fuel mileage .
As used by Ford Capri v6 and some hot 4 and 6 cylinder motors ranging from 1.2-5 liters.
This one was on a hot 1.8 Isuzu motor with well crafted custom alloy housing on top made to suit round
holley stock like filter housings or remove the housing and you can use the square type aftermarket holley filter housings.
Automatic choke with single wire to 12v power.
Also single fuel inlet very simple no return lines.
Has a redline weber adaptor plate to suit most mikuni style manifolds and maybe hitachi.
A much simpler and cheaper alternative to twin hitachi 38mm sus with all of parts available new.
These carbs go for around 300-350aud on sleezebay when available and sometimes more.

$260 inc adapter and posted Australia wide

Hello D,

How'd this go on an A10?

I'm interested.

Chris

how would these go versus twin hitachi su's on an A15? im thinking of possibly selling the twins and going back to a big single.... would also need manifold to suit.

The adapter plate is tapered for 28/32 inlets so that sits on top of your manifold.
Then the carb on top of the adapter. I dont recommend you use this
on a standard A10 as it would only benefit if you used some sort
of fast road camshaft to get it to flow properly.
I always think an early a12 is a nice motor for the b10
and you stash your a10 away in the shed for originality.
Or do what Dodgeman Chris has done with the A14 within an A12 hybrid.

Once re-jetted for your application and if the application is mild/warm/hot
then you can expect the air velocity and fuel mix to be better than a single 45mm
weber for the road as its designed for all round performance rather than top end.
A single 45mm twin weber requires a serious cam to get it
moving and then its a pig to drive in comparison to a downdraft
with more complicated flow path that improves torque.
Its really what is considered a grunter carb where unlike the twin
hitachi which have a delay in acceleration you get instant throttle
response also. Even hillman Imps with 875cc used a single 40mm weber
sidedraft as the 45 takes to long to reach optimum air velocity for proper fuel mixing.

D,

Cheers for the info. I revised my financial status and admitted that I'm not in the position to make a purchase.

Disregard my interest in purchasing.

Good luck with the sale.

Chris

I was considering one of these for my 15. Is the main shaft rotate the same direction as the 32\36 or is it reversed? I quite like my throttle setup so i don't want to change it, even for side drafts but they have enough parts that I shouldn't have to.

Weber did make the throttle shafts on these carbs in two versions, clockwise and anticlockwise. its just a matter of finding one

One of the single biggest tips to do when fitting the "DG" type carbs on the std datsun manifold, is to open up the mounting flange with a die grinder. remove the bridge section. I ground my one while the adptor fitted as to match port and make everything nice and smooth [not polished]. it's all about air flow.

I was tempted to fit a 40 DCNF [a twin throat syncronous 40mm carb] on the A12 to see how it goes. Just haven't got arround to it yet.

Yeah I know the one, I noticed Ian had one lying around one day so I gave a good looking over, they're quite compact too.
