Hi guys,
I'm getting a little frustrated in this place. I'm trying to find the equivalent of a pertronix conversion kit in zim or SA... What exactly is it because most car spares guys here know not of what i speak!!!! Im sick of points & my datto's developed a flat spot that seems to be getting worse - slowly. (only in the mornings is it there - after about three hours it goes away.) Can anyone help me out?

which is........... The Zimbabwe government redenominated the ZWD again on February 2, 2009 at a rate of 1,000,000,000,000 old ZWD to 1 new ZWD
80.00 USD = 8,263.20 ZWD ah i don`t think there`l be a cheaper one.. they have to be well made i gues

guess what!? I bought a new condenser & points (both of the brand name echlin - or something like that) for US$10 & it kind of improved for a couple of hours.
So, I've cleaned & re-gapped my plugs, changed condenser & points as well as played around with air mixture & idle screws on my carb, yet still i have a problem. a more accurate description of the problem is that at times, it sounds as if its not firing on all cylinders. when i took the plugs out to clean em, I noticed that the two on the left (closer to the dashboard) hard a much darker deposit than the two plugs on the right. the plugs on the right had a brownish deposit & the ones on the left were black! i can be driving down the road & then it starts - sounding like its missing - not firing on all cylinders, hesitating, loss of power.... then all on its own it can come right and run smoothly. this is after i've done maintenance, it can be any time of day (but i've noticed especially when i'm warming the car up in the morning).... I'm planning on trying to find a new cap & leads to try, i've got a coil that's in my mini that i wanna change across. but otherwise, i dont know what could be causing this! help guys, please?!?

Hi Ethan
Maybe your " fire " order is not ok . Make sure *1st spark* is exactly pointing to *1st cylinder PMS * and not 180

but if my firing order was not right, it would be a constant problem, correct?
this isnt a constant, sometimes it runs smooth, sometimes, it runs like a tractor... I can be driving along, no change in throttle & it will start its nonsense, then maybe go back to running smooth... or more than likely the other way round. running kak, then run smooth for a while then back to kak - all the while I will be keeping a constant pressure on the throttle... speed changes when the running of the engine changes.

Intermitant problems are always the worst. From what you have explained, it sounds like one of two things to me. a) a dirty fuel filter or b) the coil is breaking down, but only sometimes.
Points that fail typically dont get better again, its usually a one way street with those babies. let us know how you get on. cheers benny

When you get cap and leads make sure you get a rotor button aswell. I had same problem, it was a dead lead and a cracked rotor button.
One usually follows the other. If your spark plug gaps were too big or your lead has too much resistance. Electricity is lazy and will always take the path of less resistance. This is why it will arch across the button or cap and generally under load (driving up a hill). Look very carefully for cracks in the button and cap. It doesnt even need to be a crack, it can be a line of carbon deposits (burn mark). Good luck You can view topic.
