Ignition Coil

Hi Guys
Can any one explain me what are the main input ,output line of an ignition coil , and for what are they used for ? how to identify each separately ? thanks regards sumith

The coil is basically a transformer. Main input is 12v DC pulsed, (the two low tension wires connected to the lugs either side of the high tension output), the secondary outputs a higher voltage required to jump the air gap of the spark plug as 12v is not enough.

i saw in a online discussion negative side of the ignition coil provide pulse for RPM meter to work ? is it ? thanks regards sumith

Not for a datsun 1200 tachometer. It is an inducation meter, and so is wired into the + side of coil.
Most other cars tachometer is wired to - side of coil You can view topic.
