I haven't read that book at all, but I have read other books by that author, and SA design auto related books in general. Based on those other books, it's probably a decent read, with some very straight forward talk that gets you where you need to go as far as technique/skill/whatever goes. It might not turn you into a summernats winning painter, but it'll surely be good for any streeter.
About the only advice I can give about painting, and I generally suck at it compared to talented people, is to run a large enough compressor, and a decent filter/water separator, and I'd even go to the point of purchasing an extra air-hose just for the paint gun, so that it's not running air through it to power air tools all the rest of the time, so less moisture ever has a chance of getting into it at all. And for advice not related to a good result - work in a ventilated area, and wear proper protective clothing and masks. I once painted a car with a friend in a small garage (that barely fit the car in there) and little ventilation etc. It wasn't too long into the project where we actually got so dis-oriented from the fumes, and I'm not kidding about this - we engaged in conversation with the car, and were laughing at ridiculously unfunny things. I look back at it and laugh now, but we were probably giving ourselves brain damage, and god knows how close we were to passing out in there.
