can someone tell me what is done to take a engine back to non turbo. i am thinking about buying a turbo'd datto which is for sale for cheap. its got a ca in it just wondering what the cost of taking one back to non-turbo would cost, if someone could give me a rough estimate on how much it would cost and whether it would be cheaper to buy a non turbo ca and drop that in instead.

doing the work your self ?
has a ca18de can be found very cheap/free so you could sell the ca18det and put in a ca18de with minor wiring and exorst changes but making a a det into a de would be a harder i think has the non turbo would run higher compression ? so thats getting into the to hard basket i think and the most important question WHY ?

getting somebody else to do it. the reason why is... p plate restrictions. i know everybody is about to say u cant drive a datto with a ca on your p's turbo or non turbobut it doesnt bother me just as long as it isnt turbo'd.

Stock compression ratio for CA18DET is 8.5:1, so it'll be fine without the turbo. Down maybe 2-3% from a CA18DE, but both use the same head.

may as well keep the turbo on it, either way its still illegal for you to drive it.

Hey Louix
Daddy might not know but the local gendarme certainly will. 3 months no licence and then daddy will kick your derriere. No insurance either. So plowing into the side of a citreon will be an expensive exercise. No Car No licence and a huge debt as well does not sound like much fun. Flog the ring out of a 1200 and if you survive long enough to get a full licence then play with something a bit special. Cheers Bob
