B110 Coupe - To Take on the East African Classic Safari Rally

Hi all,
Thought you would be interested in this. My team will be attempting the East African Classic Safari Rally in Nov 2009. 6000kms over the roughest and toughest roads seen in rallying. The car we have prepared is the Datsun B110 Coupe. You must be thinking we are crazy, but there is a method to the madness! In 2007 we did it in a Datsun 260Z (sorry) but we wanted to take something interesting and different this year. So far it is the only 1200 in the 50 crew line up! This is my second attempt at the event and my drivers first. So we are a pretty novice team taking on the biggest event in the smallest car! WE like a challenge! Our website link is attached below and will be updated regularly now and keep an eye out for the News page. www.bhmotorsport.co.uk The event website is: www.eastafricansafarirally.com

I rekon it's a good strategy, considering Datsun prepared the 1600 for these events there's no reason the 1200 would do any worse. That car is an absolute stunner by the way.
Something interesting I found while reading my "how to modify datsun" book mentioned the BRE team would use a double tie rod arrangement. There's only one picture of in in the book so I can't quite figure it out.

There are alot of modifications that have gone into the Car. The SAfari is a Rally in its own element - A car breaker. WE have gone for a reliability approach and reinforced alot of it and "doubled" up on alot of the parts. I will be posting some pictures of the build soon.
The Car is on its way to Kenya now, with some more modifications to be made there. I will try keep the website updated as regularly as possible. WE just want to give the big boys a run for their money, in a car built in our back garage!

In the old video of the Safari Rally where the Datsun 240Zs won, I though I saw a B110 in the video. Has any B110 ever been entered?
Ewold van Bergen entered a Datsun 1200 was in the 1973 BNU Rally, which was held over some of the roughest and tightest roads in South Africa and Mozambique. 1973 BNU Rally Datsun B110

I don't think there was ever a proper "manufacturers" entry - however there have been a few privately entered in the hay day.
Datsun / Nissan realy came into the scene with the 1600 (510 Series)

Datsun has some great history on the Safari in a variety of cars. Also "locals" seemed to do well in this event, I've read stories in Motosport and some other mags that talked about crews from Tanginika, Uganda and Rhodesia/Zimbabwe. Out here in the Mojave Desert we have no shortage of rough roads.............very often slow but sturdy cars find themselves run well up the order. Can't wait to here how you guys do.
