#1 steering wheel perishing mess on Chamberlian C670
reuby_tuesday Posted on: 2009/10/14 11:56
Folks

The steering wheel on my latest aquisition was originally made from rubber, and since it is about 30 years old, the rubber is perishing and coming off onto my hands as a black, greasy smear. Is there anything that I can do to seal up the rubber again to stop it from perishing further, or is it a matter of just using a steering wheel cover to keep things cleanish. Replacing it is not really an option at this stage (pretty hard to find and damn expensive)

I have already tried cleaning the wheel to make sure that it wasnt just grot and its definatly the wheel perishing.

You know, Mike may have one. he does have everything else in that shed of his, but i doubt it.

hmmm i feel a little guilty asking about the beastish C670 on this forum, but it is mechanically related, and I amsure someone here might have an idea.

yeah tongy, its the latest aquasition to the family (Chamberlain C670, made here in Welshpool, WA with a Gason Cab [made in Adelaide, SA]). according to the chart 24.9mph in 3rd gear, high range at 2000rpm. not bad for 70hp!
Still got a few quirks to iron out, like cab mounts, and the TPL top shaft is cracked, a few oil leaks, missing windows....

I recommend replacing it with a Momo or other Italian sport wheel. Maybe this one:
