L18 Conversion done, BUT couple of issues...

Guys,
We just completed a built L18 / 5 speed conversion into my brother's 79 1200 ute, and we have a couple of problems I was hoping those in the know could help us with. 1: The coupe looped tacho is wired up as per wiki info, (please see pic) and all we get is some very slight jumping around every now & then when the engine is running. - The tacho wire was the wrong way around (to "-" trigger) & I changed that when I checked it as per the pic. - Any ideas? 2: We are using the early skyline stumpy 5 speed, what model dato do we pilfer a speedo cable from to get the factory 1200 speedo working correctly? Happy with the build, we are running the engine in but can tell it's a huge improvement over the worked A14 that it had previously. - Much more torque. The L18 was rebuilt with Hypatec pistons, 10.5:1 comp, Anothony Koch spec'd cam & a good port & polish. It's running a jetted down draught weber we had laying around until it's ran in, which will be swapped out for a single 45mm side draught.

Looking good mate. Speedo wont be working right even if you get a cable i used a 180b one but i think just a 1200 auto one will fit pretty sure i tried it on my stumpy box with coupe dash. You would need to get it calibrated to be accurate.

Measuring up the L20b for another ute now... :) 0 Wonder if we can get that in without modding the crossmember too...

In your diagram you have the signal feed to the tacho to the + side of the coil. It should be connected to the - side of the coil.
To work, tachos need: 1) "-" side of coil for rpm pulse/feed; 2) earth; 3) "+" power feed usually via ign switch (although I have a Stewart Warner after market tacho which doesn't require a power feed. It just has earth and "-" side of coil) The wire to the + side of the coil is simply the coils power feed from the + side of the battery/ignition. By wiring as per the diagram you essentially just have both sides of the coil connected to the + side of the battery.

the coupe taco picks up pulse from positive coil supply
like pic,not negitive like after market tacos u have it hooked up right just swap the wires going thrugh taco loop over[power running wrong way through loop it will flicker] thats y the black with white trace wire has a male and female connectors so it cant be connected wrong tommo

200b speedo cable might work out but probably need a recalibration for the speedo.
looking good, doubt you will get l20 in with out sump mods and xmember mods, from looking at pigdogs
