Sedan from Germany

Hello there!
Would like to introduce my sedan and myself. I'm from southern germany, 24 years old and my car background is about swedish bricks and BMWs. I also have two mid-eighties 5 series sitting in the garage. My 1200 is a 1972 sedan "deluxe" (still don't know what this stands for, except the badges on the c pillar ) and I bought it more or less accidetially, since I needed a reliable, low cost and classy daily ride. The Datsun was cheap and old cars enjoy a tax benefit over here. By trying to gather information I found this page (60s US-Falcon wheels don't really fit, since the center bore is too small ) The 1200 not quite a #OOPS#ter but also not too shiny and also completely stock, a circumstance I'd like to change, which is quite a challenge due to german laws and the lack of well sorted datsun junk yards. Although there's a handful 1200s and 120Y running over here, it's also pretty tricky to get parts, Nevertheless, seek and ye shall find I plan to build something low, quick and well cornering, maybe to compete with the hot fiats and opel kadett B ran by some friends of mine and for having some fun in the narrow, kurvy side roads. A long way to go for now Cheers Viking

Welcome Viking. It will be a big change from Volvos.
Your 1200 looks just like mine. Deluxe means it is not the bottom level 1200, the Standard.

Yeah, welcome (sorry I forgot that in my last post!)
Mine is a GL, is that the lowest spec?

Wilkommen - I've been to the south of Germany before - down Baden Baden way. I must admit I never saw a 1200 down there!
I think this is the first German 1200 on this site, congratulations.

That's right! We had a German B210, but this is the first 1200
GL is Grand Luxe, the highest trim except for GX (Grand Luxe Twin Carb). GL has the 3-spoke steering wheel.

Love the sedans, welcome to our community.
You can compete with your friends cars in original form and a lil tweaking or againsts bmw and swedish bricks using SR20, CA or even L/Ka24e hybrids.

I saw a 1200 like that in Nuremberg when i was there in 2003. My girlfriend at the time was at university there. I was on a bus and saw a 1200 like that. I couldn't believe it! I remember it as being either white or light in colour. Where in Bavaria are you? What are the chances it's the same car? It was the only datsun I ever saw during my time in Germany!
What are the tax advantages for old cars there? I thought the tax got higher as the car got older? I had a friend who had his grandfathers old 7-series BMW in the garage and said it was too expensive to use anymore. I bought an Opel Corsa there and remember something about it was more expensive because it didn't have a catalytic converter. Was quite hard to sell for this reason also. I didn't see many old cars on the road, I think my Corsa was 1988 at it seemed very old by German standards. Enjoy your car, parts shouldn't be big problem as you could just bring parts in from USA via ebay?

I thought GL would be a base model, I might put the badges back on!

In Portugal we have benefits too, we have an ensurance for about 50 us dollars and no taxes.
But I need to have 2 cars in my name , one recent car and a classic with 25 years or more to benefit the low classic ensurance. You can view topic.
