I doubt if it's a real GX, it looks like the vinyl top chromework from Capital Motors.

yes, you can tell by the VIN. Look at the Chassis ID number stamped into the firewall sheet metal, and compare it to the Chassis ID number on the aluminum ID plate. If they match and the plate says 83 PS (or at least more than 69 HP), it is a genuine article.

Certainly a nice re build, but correct me if i,m wrong, should'nt this car have round top carbies
instead of what it's got given the vintage of the
engine,also,is that steering wheel correct??

If it is a Japan-market GX, it sould have round-top Hitachis.

But if it is an GX out of South Africa, a 1974 or 1975, it will have flat-top Hitachis.

The steering wheels is an OPTION wheel, available for GX and other 1200s.

I just looked at the eBay ad.
Some additional thoughts:

* The wheel center looks like a newer Nismo option (has a center badge with a motorsports flag design). It doesn't match the hub.

* It has the wrong bonnet for a 1971 GX. The bonnet shown is for 1972 Japan-market 1200s.

* It has 'Datsun' and 'D' badges. A JDM GX would have Sunny and S badges. Could it be a South Africa GX? The bumpers don't match the SA GX.

* It has standard Australia/Europe indicators. GX had all-orange front lamps.

* The seats look like GX or GL ones. Very nice.

* It's an automatic (GXA)

* The dash look like a regular one. Should the GX dash be brown?

It seems to be a GX replica. As such it may be worth 10K AUD, it is very nice looking.

Dodgeman says the Aussie parts book lists GX parts. "The few Australian GX's that were sold would have received the 120 mph speedo."

Apart from the gx bits, the vinyl roof on my coupe was identical, same steering wheel, Same b pillar trim (not genuine). Its a twin of my coupe lol!!! Wish mine was as good!! Hopefully soon will be all sweet. Oh and mine isnt a gx, and has nooooooo gx parts apart from the steering wheel lol
Ah, Wishful thinking..........
