RyanFurY Posted on: 2010/2/19 8:19
hey guys, wondering is someone might have a solution. i built a new a 14 with gx head, new pistons, rings etc.. fired up the engine las night and it pissed out all the oil at the back (gearbox side) of the engine. any suggestions as to what it may be?

Someone forgot to put the oil galley plug in somewhere.

have you ensured that the rocker cover gasket is sealed nicely? it often takes going round the screws three times and tightening them to get a good seal. If its not that then I ask did you use a gasket sealant on the other cork gaskets like for the sump? the cork gaskets arent always that great at sealing on their own so it sometimes helps to smear a thin layer of master gasket on either side of the cork gasket. If the oil is coming out from behind the flywheel you need to ensure that you got the rear main crank seal on the correct way and that you put the bung in the rear oil gallery hole if you took it out during the rebuild.

i forgot the front oil gallery plug when i built the fuel injected a15, but i remembered before the engine went into the car, it took about 40 minutes to take the sump off, the timing chain cover off and cam sprocket off then put it all back together. good thing i remembered. Hope if your problem is the oil gallery plug that you didnt run the engine for long!

Yes, probably what D-mog said.

its there, under the rear hole for the cam shaft.

in my case I think the gearbox oil is too full and it's forcing it's way out of the clutch fork retainer plate, well I hope it's that now that the coolant problem is less noticable

The chances of the oil gallery plug, under the camshaft, coming loose is pretty remote. Possible, but not my first guess.

More likely is the possibility that the cam was not installed carefully & it has bumped the welch plug at the back of the last cam bearing position, dislodging it & allowing oil to leak out.

I had always replaced this welch plug with a brass one & I would install it after the cam was installed.

Yes, I know that the likelyhood of a steel welch plug rusting out when it has oil against one face & just air on the other is less than zero but I just replace everything that is regarded as a consumable once the engine is dismantled to the bare block stage.

i installed a new welch plug, installed both front and back oil gallery plugs and the oil leak is sorted, but i'm not getting any oil pressure. i'm using thegx oil pump, 1400 and 1200 seems the same
