Found 1971 Coupe, good deal?

Hey everyone, I found a blue 1971 Coupe in my town. I'm not really sure what it is worth though. The body is pretty straight. small areas of surface rust that I can easily sand out. I figure I can take care of these and do a careful spray paint job and it will look pretty clean. It's got a rebuilt motor with about 50,000 miles on it. The body is probably close to 400k. This guy is the second owner. He wants 1200 for it. I'm wondering if this is a good deal and if I were to clean up the body and rattle can it, what do you think I would be able to sell it for?
Thanks in advance, Alex

If you plan to resell it, that is not a great price, you may have trouble selling it.
If you plan to drive it, yes that's a fair price for USA. For east coast USA, it's a good price for a driveable, registerable 1200.

What you may gather from dd's response is the common theme that it is pretty hit and miss and making money by buying and car and fixing it up for a profit, it can be done but it's a lot harder than it seems. (Assuming the second hand car market is as weak as it is in Australia)

this is listed on craigslist as for sale in lynnwood, WA.USA, DD this could be the guy who's cars we've talked about.
He's being coy as I contacted him & asked when I could look at the car & he said quote - "The car isn't close to where I live right now, but I look to see when I'll be able to show it. No set price yet. Since it's a fairly rare car, I'm taking all offers." he's trying to middleman it w/o buying it first, kind of a BS way to sell a car, if he was upfront about it that'd be different.
