#1 BOV and alternatives
ca18datsun Posted on: 2010/4/17 13:46
i have a datsun 1200 ca18det ute, its nothing flash to look at, but its something special to drive. so in true sleeper fashion im not interested in attracting attention with my turbos discharge.
i dont want to compromise performance by any means, i just dont want high pich whistles.
so what are my options?

Im not running a BOV , so you get the flutter from the turbo on gear changes which sounds nice.

If you nanted a BOV use a plumb back unit and plub it back in after the AFM

+1 to BOV cos they sound cool

but so does turbo flutter !

Even a plumbed back noise suppression device still make their sound however its a lot quieter. Isnt it ironic when the technical term for a BOV and its function is the opposite? :P

yeah plumb back is the way to go, i got pretty sick of mine being so loud(both BOV of flutter) so will definately be finishing my plumb back setup on the wagon

PLUS!... now this IS a controversial topic...

If you vent to the atmosphere the ECU then thinks you have X amount of air and sends X amount of fuel to create the big bang but there is less air than there is supposed to be so every time you hit boost and change gear your engine will run a #OOPS#load richer just for that cycle, hence the reason why you see a "puff" of black smoke from a car that has an atmo BOV. Arguably this can lead to all sorts of problems...

But for the sake of the argument, if you plumb it back in AFTER the AFM (if you have one) than the correct amount of air is in the engine for the fuel.

Did that make sense? >.<

Yeah pretty much, I prefer a map sensor rather than a AFM.
