#1 G box weights
Datsss Posted on: 2010/11/22 8:34
I,ve looked in the wiki but can anyone tell me how much weight I will add by fitting a 60a or 60L 5 speed, the wiki states these boxes weigh 70 pounds but dosent give a weight for a 56 series 4 speed......

I just weighed all three with clutch forks and bearing carriers but no oil:
56 = 17.4kg
60A= 20.8kg
60L= 23.2kg

Good to see the 60a is 20 kg quite heavy the L version
must be bigger imput shaft and bellhousing material?
I was looking at the latest Ultima world record car
it only has 3 speed gearbox sequential setup.

Id love a 4 speed with a torquey a15 but will
need all custom ratios

eg.

2.6
1.65
1:1
0.5

Thats great levey, just the info I wanted and not as much of a weight increse as I thought. Its also not a bad spot to add 3-6kg being close to the centre of the car......

I'd have expected the 60A and 60L to be near identical. Was the 60A a 4-speed (and 60L a 5 speed)?

Yes 60A was 4spd and 60L was 5spd dogleg.

According to my scales which are probably only accurate to + or - 250g
5speed 60A no oil,no release lever etc = 22.0Kg
5speed 60L no oil,no release lever etc = 21.3Kg

even with the accuracy of the scales taken into account, it looks like dogleg is (insignificantly) lighter

Yeah not much difference, I expected more.
Oh and my scales would not be spot on at all either as the wife has been standing on them ;)

HAHAHA!!!

Finally some GB weights. Good stuff Nigel.

EDIT: And good work Mal as well......Sorry I skipped reading the thread and ended up laughing at the Levey's arse-scales comment. Missed the rest of the weights that you posted.

How many gearboxes do you have at the moment Mal? I was speaking to a bloke in VIC who was after one.
