#1 Rear wheel width on a sedan
WARDY Posted on: 2011/2/6 10:55
Ok so im heading to melbourne in 2 weeks time to get my wheels and brakes!..
I know that i will be able to get a set of 7's under the back in 0 offset.. but is there any chance of fitting 8's? My diff is shortened to standard 1200 width and the wheels i can get in 8's are either -12 or +12 offset, which i think wont work too well.. I just wanna make sure i can get the widest wheel i can get under there..

Or should i just stick with the 7' until i do some tub work?

13*8 -12 would be nice! probably depends what diameter u need to run to fit over the brakes,it was tight with 15*7-0 on the rear of my sedan, running 2inch blocks with 165*50 tyre.i think 8'+12 might fit with a slim tyre but.

10-inch wide fits. But you would need to fit overfender flares to make it legal.

Yeh 8" +12 would be your best bet for being in the guards and filling them well.

Agreed. 8" will fit between the fender lip and the leaf spring. But the offset will be important. I would guess you need about +12.

hmmm well this has made me more confused! lol.. the wheels are 15's. i might bolt and axle and disk on tonight and do some measuring.

Put it all together and fit a wheel you know the offset of. Measure the distance from rim to leaves and rim to guard.

Then go here and enter the details of your known rim and your new rim, it will tell you the change in clearance both inner and outer.

cheers for the link sss, will come in handy!

Did a bit of measuring and the results are (remeber we are talking 8" (203mm) rim!)

- From disk to spring- 150mm
- From disk to Guard- 70mm

For wheel with a 4" backspace the wheel will be in towards the spring 114mm, which is fine but it will protrude out 89mm! which is 19mm further then the guard lol..

For a wheel with a 5.5" backspace, the wheel will be in towards the spring 139mm and protrude outwards by 63.5mm.. which will leave a 11mm gap at the spring and around 7mm at the guard.

The choice of et drag radials are 205/50-15 or 225/50-15

Taking the tyre into consideration what do you think i should do? try the 8's for size or just cut my losses and get the 7's for now? its a fairly big gamble at $400 a wheel!

go the 4" backspace with the 205/50 tyre

Hey Wardy, ive got 13x8" -13offset.
Ive never tried them on the rear but ill do it tomorrow arvo just to save you the hassle
And let you know some measurements and ideal offsets.

Also is the diff exactly the same width measurement from original drum face to drum face(mine is early sedan BW diff), to your disk face to disk face? Just so that i don't lead you down the wrong track!
