#1 Custom crank pulley with Fluid balancers / Dampener
D Posted on: 2011/5/3 11:07
Anyone know who makes custom crank pulleys with fluid balancer / dampeners?
Ive seen the chev and ford ones on ebay but cant find out who
makes the darn things.
Ive tried the mob in NSW who make the Pro balancers but they dont
make one offs for a CA18DET without Air con and power steering pulleys.

Try Ross balancers in Sydney.... Dont think they manufacture fluid ones but the ones they do, are world class.

They where the ones I tried but dont make single pulley ones they all have the stock
3 pulley setup. The Ross ones on ebay are 500+aud, Ross does them for about 475aud.

How about if I use this one by sleeving it and putting a billet pulley bolted on?
itll be similar to the Ross ones. This one is 6.3/4 inch diameter.

just noticed the ones with the billet blue separate pulleys are no good
as they are not dampened like the main pulley!

Would an A series with the V belt not need the balancer from the V belts
slipping and reducing vibration at critical rpm?

Just wondering if I could get away with a v belt setup for the Ca18de?
Im only running the waterpump and alternator.

This is just too pricey!!!

Don Ill accept your overused Cliché abbreviation if you got a better solution
on how I could run a single pulley setup?
eg. machine the 2 extra pulleys off a stock balancer which is pretty hard.
Im pretty short on real-estate in the 1000 engine bay so the extra 2 pulleys leaves
no space for my bigger radiator and thermo fan.

The dampener is not for the accessory belts. It is to help damp out the crankshaft vibrations. Those V8s will self destruct without it. If you use a GM damper, be sure to get a nuetral balance unit.

A-series don't need one. But they might help with 10,000 RPM A-series, as the flywheel bolts sometimes shake loose....

A single pulley will save me from lack of room upfront and
I dont run air con or powersteering pumps.
Im aiming for 8000rpm redline of the ca18 hybrid so it would
be safe to use one than be sorry.

beautiful but super expensive
would prefer someone to customise a stocky eg...

I have machined down a few of the crank pulleys but I wouldn't recommend it for everyone as i also scotch keyed the pulleys to stop them turning on the rubber and falling apart, but if you are after an after market one Ross Tuffbond Balancers do make up race pulleys for the CA

can anyone do something similar?
